Refugees Welcome! is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on bringing together immigrant and refugee service providers in the greater Boston area and beyond to strengthen and streamline services.
To do this, Refugees Welcome! focuses on four thematic program areas; communication, outreach, research, and technology. Refugees Welcome! works with academics, students, and researchers to help solve the most pressing issues facing migrants in our community and abroad.
About the Director of Technology
Refugees Welcome! is seeking a new Director of Technology for our organization that works closely with our Executive Director, Denise Muro, and Founder, Charla M. Burnett, and Research Director, Jason McSparren, to be responsible for the planning and implementation of our website, online databases, our Migrant Service Map (MSM) Initiative and OrganizeTogether Partnership.
The Director of Technology is an integral member of the Migrant Service Map (MSM) Initiative working to map immigrant and refugee services across the greater Boston and Massachusetts area, promote the MSM Initiative, and lead the development team at Code for Boston at MIT in Cambridge. The Director of Technology hired for this position will have the primary responsibility of planning the next step for the mapping tool using Mapbox, conduct spatial research on immigrant and refugee services, and conduct outreach to service providers, which includes all beta testing and reporting.
The ideal candidate would have a grasp on quantitative data analysis for a variety of evaluation and research projects, including: translating research questions into appropriate statistical analyses; creating data analysis plans; managing and integrating data sets; analyzing complex data through descriptive and inferential statistical and spatial analyses; and supporting project teams across a variety of analytic support needs. The Director works closely with other team leads to write and create reports that are high-quality and user-friendly for our partnered service providers.
Degree Requirements
Bachelors- Computer Programming, Information Sciences, Geography, or Social Sciences
Minimum Requirements
-Completion of a Bachelors program in computer programming, information sciences, geography, or social sciences (with a heavy focus on quantitative methods).
-Enrolled in a Graduate program in Boston or 2 years of project management experience and an interest in community service or migration.
-Reside in the Greater Boston Area and can make it to the University of Massachusetts Boston and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a weekly/month basis.
-Experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Desired Qualifications
-Background in conducting and leading research teams.
-Knowledge of WordPress, Mabox, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Slack, and/or Github.
-Interest in grant writing and management.
